Island City Massage

A small business brand built through identity, environment, and ongoing execution.

Where We Started

Island City Massage started with the right kind of personality, but not much of a system. The brand already had a coastal, zen energy, and the owner was naturally central to how the business showed up. The work was about building more structure around that foundation so the brand could feel clearer, stronger, and more complete.

Logo, Colors and Visual Language

The brand system first came to life through printed trifolds, which quickly proved to be a strong and effective touchpoint for the business. From there, the identity kept evolving over time, with each new print run and replenishment creating space to refine the system further.

The original thumbprint logo became part of a larger mark supported by new typography and a more defined visual language. The retro influence helped give the brand a beach-adjacent warmth without turning it into parody, while alternate logo treatments using coastal imagery gave the business more flexibility for applications like apparel and other more expressive uses.

The color palette was built around the feeling of the beach at night — moodier, richer, and a little more atmospheric than the typical spa palette. That helped the brand feel more distinctive while still supporting the relaxing, resort-like energy of the business. The studio environment itself was also shaped to reflect that same tone, so the brand could feel consistent not just in print and on-screen, but in the physical experience too.

Website & Marketing

The website was built to highlight treatment options clearly while also making room for the broader lifestyle side of the brand. It needed to work as a practical business tool, but still feel connected to the larger identity.

Email marketing took a similar approach. The monthly newsletter balances wellness content with personal updates from the owner, which feels right for a solo business where the brand and the person behind it are closely tied together.

Print remained part of the mix too, especially through the flyer system that helped define the look early on. Across web, email, and print, the goal was the same: make the business feel more cohesive, more intentional, and more like itself.

Outcome

What started as a looser personal brand became a more fully realized small business identity — one with clearer visual language, stronger consistency, and more room to grow. The work stayed close to the personality of the business, but gave it more structure, more polish, and a more recognizable presence across the places people actually encounter it.
